The Joint Trade Union Movement congratulates the General Assembly of the United Nations for their stance on peace and an end to the US embargo against the people of Cuba!
For twenty –eight consecutive years, the world has called for peace and the removal of the unjust US imposed embargo. In an overwhelming vote that was almost unanimous, the people of the globe have voted to end the nonsensical US embargo unfairly placed on the people of Cuba.
In a new age of self-determination, sovereignty and friendly relations between nations, the United States continues with their antagonistic measures to attempt to force sovereign countries into submission in its quest to acquire world dominance.
Despite the many advances made in the global arena, the United States insists upon maintaining a measure introduced during the Cold War and escalating its aggression despite the fact that the only outcome is the disastrous effect the embargo has on the people of Cuba.
The United Nations which represents one hundred and ninety-three (193) countries has voted to remove the embargo on numerous occasions. The United States, in its obstinacy and complete disregard for international law, friendly relations or state sovereignty, continues to maintain its uncooperative stance deterring global progress.
The Progressive Trade Union Movement of Trinidad and Tobago therefore applauds the one hundred and eighty-seven (187) countries on the resounding vote that took place on November 7th 2019 in the United Nations’ General Assembly. Once again, we stand with progressive movements in the globe in saying no to the US embargo. We stand with our fellow Comrades of CARICOM in echoing the immeasurable contribution Cuba has made, the punitive nature of the embargo and the major impediment it is to Caribbean development.
We, the Progressive Trade Union Movement join with the globe as we can once again claim victory with our Cuban Comrades in its continued struggle against the US embargo. We acknowledge the strong position put forth by CARICOM and we say to the people of Cuba, “Hasta la Victoria siempre!’ Venceremos!”
